Come on out to Tallahassee's Contra Dance at Tallahassee's Senior Citizens Center at 1400 North Monroe Street (corner of Monroe & 7th Ave.) on Friday, Aug. 10th, 2018 7:30 'til 10:30 pm to dance to the music of the Long Forgotten String Band with Richard Hopkins as caller. This is a farewell dance for Richard, my favorite caller.

The Long Forgotten String Band will provide the music and, when you hear them, you'll see why we're always happy to have them play for dances.
Our caller will be Richard Hopkins but we're not happy to say this is his last call here before moving to Vermont with his wife Gayle to be with family and grandchildren.
Richard starting calling in 1991, has served on the Danceboard, acted as our caller wrangler for many years and has trained, encouraged and mentored our other local callers. Anyone who used to dance at the Miccosukee Land Co-op or to his calls in the past or at the Fla. Folk Festival is invited to come to the dance Friday to shower him with appreciation and wish him well on the next chapter of his life.
Richard will give beginner lessons and refresher contradance hints at 7:15. We'll have snacks including watermelon at the break but please add to them by bringing food to share with other dancers. Also try to bring friends and family and carpool to the hall.
The Tallahassee Community Friends of Old Time Dance has a Facebook page under that organization name and a HUGE website at
There you can find archived photos and videos of Richard, other callers and bands, previous dances, our full schedule for the rest of the year and so much more.
